Preferred Insurance Brokers Pinelands won effortlessly, 70-46, over Combined Schools Lady Tridents when the 2018 #1 Beauty Supplies and Beauty Exchange Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Women's League continued last night at the Wildey, St Michael Gymnasium.
Pinelands, the reigning double crown champions coached by Chris Holder, are top of the standings with 12 points and yesterday's win will push them further ahead of rivals Cougars on ten.
Since defeating Pinelands in the opening game of the season, Tridents have been unable to regain that form as they trailed 25-11, 42-18 and 59-30 throughout the first three stanzas. Pinelands captain Sade Clarke and fellow point guard Makela Walcott both registered 19 points which were the highest total by any player on the night.

Clarke freed her arms outside the semicircle for five treys and had a good time on the court with eight assists, four rebounds along with a steal and block shot. Each occupied the court for close to 38 minutes. Meanwhile, Walcott shot seven two-point shots off 15 attempts, accounted for one three-pointer and two free throws for her overall total. Walcott also claimed six rebounds with four on the defensive end, three assists and one steal.
National point guard Maria 'Flowers' Cumberbatch also got her name on to the score sheet with 16 points and Kashera Corbin was the only other player to reach double digits for Pinelands with ten as both ladies spent over 30 minutes on the court. Former national volleyballers Julia Lewis and Anicia Wood are also part of Pinelands squad and contributed two points each.
The highest individual score for Tridents came through Alesha Squires and Hannah Ashby with a total of 11 while Hannah's eldest sister Zahra Ashby contributed ten as those were the only three that registered double digits. Rebecca Simpson had eight points in the game, there were four from Skyla Williams and two by Joniqua Moore.
The one-hour long encounter was lopsided as Pinelands with a quality side showed their dominance. They have played seven matches this season, won five and lost two with 497 points for and 391 against to remain at the top.
In second position remains Cougars who are destined to face off against Pinelands when the league final comes off in a few weeks' time. The Dexter Griffith-coached Cougars side with the likes of Jennifer Joseph-Hackett and Toni Atherley have so far played six games, and won four and lost two.
Meanwhile, the Denise Alleyne and Cosmo Edwards' Tridents side have only registered one win so far this year out of seven matches having lost the other six with 289 points for and 445 against.
There are only three teams in this year's competition, and Combined Schools Lady Tridents on seven points realistically will not make the playoffs considering the miniscule number of participating teams for the season.
