The Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA) are the champions of Division One football.

The team was crowned last night, at the Barbados Football Association's Wildey, St Michael AstroTurf, following a 4-0 victory over St Andrew Lions.

Midfielder Durea Padmore scored a brace and strikers Damar Maloney and Edwin Adams both scored to help their side to a comfortable win.

Padmore’s goals, which came in the 44th and 48th minutes, resulted from squared balls by Jamile Goodman on the flank inside of the six-yard box on each occasion.

The team found two additional goals in the dying stages of the game when Maloney was awarded a penalty kick in the 90th minute after a reckless challenge by Lions' goalkeeper Marco Clarke.

That was followed by another from Adams in the second minute of stoppage time.

BSA coach Andrew Tudor, who took up the job two seasons ago, was overjoyed at the result.

“When I came on, I allowed Jack [Bovell] to know that our mission is to be playing at the highest level. So we set out a plan and work towards getting into the Premier League and fortunately with the inclusion of some foreign-based players [mostly from St Lucia] we were able to accomplish our mission,” he told Barbados TODAY following the game.

Last night’s performance summed up a magnificent Division One season for the BSA who topped Zone Two with a whopping 52 points. They recorded 17 wins from their 19 matches, losing just one game, while the other ended in a draw. So commanding was their performance that they scored 56 goals and allowed just 10 goals.

The Lions were unrivalled in Zone One having recorded ten wins, five losses and four draws, having ended with a goal difference of 12, with 34 goals for and 22 against.

Come next season the BSA and Lions will be joined by the Youth Milan Football Club, coached by former national captain and ace striker Norman Forde.

Milan won game one in the best of two promotional matches on Tuesday night, 2-1 against Wotton.

The two teams met again yesterday in a 1-1 draw ending a five year Premiership drought for Milan. (ML)
